If Ethiopia disintegrates, the first culprits are the chauvinist Amara elites
It’s interesting as well as mindboggling to read the back-and-forth exchanges Dr. Negaso shared with us. It goes without saying that if Ethiopia disintegrates, the first culprits are the chauvinist Amhara elites, who created and still pursue very narrow minded concept of Ethiopia and Ethiopiawinet. They made Ethiopia the exclusive club of narrow Ethiopianists, who equate Ethiopia with Amhara elites domination and Amhara nurtured garrison town culture, which was founded on cruelty, denial, trickery, crookedness, mischiefs, etc.
If they have the gut to be honest to their consciences, particularly the chauvinist Amhara elites in Diaspora, they can clearly see the effects of their extremely narrow definition of Ethiopia in the Diaspora. There is no inclusive Ethiopian community, church, mosque, etc. except in names. There is Amara, Oromo, Tigrean, etc. communities. Even in the Ethiopian Orthodox church, most of the Tigreans and Amaras do not even go to the same Orthodox church. They don’t have the same communities. Oromo communities are thriving across the world, independent of the narrow exclusive club of Amaras.
Simply put, chauvinist Amara elites’ social, political, linguistic, etc. behaviors have already successfully disintegrated Ethiopia in the Diaspora. There is Ethiopia, no more, in the Diasporas, who hail from Ethiopia across the world. Of course, the very essence of the chauvinists definition of Ethiopia is living in denials of the ensuing reality. They live more in their heads than the realities around them. Go to their homes or their work offices, they still hang Ethiopia’s map that include Eritrea. Unless they start thinking new ways, their disintegration of Ethiopia in the Diaspora will reach Ethiopia proper sooner than they think. The Sun has set on their mindset of controlling and dominating everything. Again, they need to be honest to their conscience and observe the Diasporas from Ethiopia. Denial is easy; honesty calls for courage. They lack courage.
On the issue of Qubee, whether it’s Latin or Sabean alphabets, they are not the local products. Both are imports. Of course, one may argue on who imported what first. Even then those who imported Sabean alphabets and used it over the years have never worked towards or worried about whether the system fits Afaan Oromoo or others. It has never been their goal. Now when the linguistics came up with alphabets that efficiently serves Afaan Oromoo, they cry rivers. Their import has not efficiently served Amharic.
On the free movement of people in Ethiopia. Whenever they talk or write about the free movements of people in Ethiopia, they only worry about the migration Amaras to the conquered lands. Oromos and other conquered nations and nationalities have accommodated people across diversities. Even worse the internal migrant settlements in the conquered lands have been done at the expense of the conquered natives. It has destroyed the economic, political, cultural, social, linguistic, etc. integrity of the conquered people. The internal migrants never integrate into the natives of the land. Although numerically small, they dominate everything. The political system is designed to destroy everything in the conquered lands.
Moreover, the movement of people is just one way. For instance, other internal migrant cannot even survive if he/she migrats to the hinterlands of Tigray or Amhara region. Even the most known internal migrants, Gurages, cannot survive, let along thrive, in Tigray or Amara region. Yet, any Tigrean or Amhara can migrate to the lands of Oromos, Sidamas, etc. and evict the Oromos, Sidamas, etc. from their ancestral lands. Imagine an internal migrant going to Tigray or Amhara region to evict the local farmers. It’s impossible. This is worse than double standard. It gets worse. They don’t stop there. Unless the victims of internal migration speak the language of the migrants, Amharic, the chauvinist Amharas hit the roof. If one takes time and thinks over it, it is a tragedy to an Oromo in Ethiopia or a Sidama in Ethiopia, etc. We’re to blame!!
In the developed part of the world, if one wants to learn about the history of a particular area, he/she needs to venture into the nearest towns, where historical records of the towns and the people surrounding the towns are kept. Most of them, including small towns, have local Museums. Venture into most of the towns and cities in Oromia, you will learn about Gonder, Menz, and Gojam. Oromos and their history is non-existent. There is nothing you will learn about Oromos. Until recently, it is a crime to even ask about Oromos. Yet, they want us to believe this is the most beneficial strategy for the Oromos. A strategy designed to destroy Oromos!.
